Mount Samat National ShrineTo fully appreciate the extraordinary range of the province of Bataan, Mount Samat is a must-see. This historic mountain is located in the town of Pilár, Province of Bataan. Situated near its summit is the Mount Samat National Shrine or better known to locals as the Dambana ng Kagitingan (Shrine of Valour). The national shrine is dedicated to the fallen Filipino and American fallen during World War II. The shrine complex also features a well-presented war museum where locals and tourists alike can view a wide array of collections from paintings of the Philippine heroes, and armaments used by the Filipino, American and Japanese forces during the war. Las Casas Filipinas de AcuzarBacktrack To old Philippines! Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar offers endless ways to experience the country’s remarkable history. Located in Bagac, Bataan, Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is an open-air museum and heritage park. Built by José “Gerry” Acuzar, a construction magnate, owner of the New San Jose Builders and history art collector, the museum and heritage park features old houses, mostly Spanish design, which will really let you travel back in time. These houses were rehabilitated to resemble the original structure. The parts that were missing like woodwork and bricks were replicated to look like the original structure. Mount NatibVolcanoes are some of the world’s top tourist attractions. Mount Natib is one of the breathtaking volcanoes in the country, which can be found in the beautiful province of Bataan. This astonishing landscape was declared as the Bataan National Park in 1945. Mount Natib is also home to five thermal areas. The hot springs in the Natib caldera are Asin, Mamot, Tigulangin, Uyong and Paipit springs. The hot springs’ temperature range from 30-56 °C, with low flows and a neutral to slightly alkaline water discharge. Travel to Mount Natib today, There’s no place like it! Bataan World War II Museum & the Surrender Site MarkerHere’s another must visit attraction in Bataan. The Bataan World War II Museum is one of the country’s finest historical museums. It features interesting collection of artifacts and it presents the real story behind the famous Fall of Bataan! The museum is small in size but well presented and it is easily accessible from the town plaza. The Surrender Site Marker, on the other hand, is located inside the Balanga Elementary School Grounds, this venue was used as a command post by Lt. Gen. Homma at the time of Bataan’s Surrender wherein Major Gen. King and his party signed the documents for the surrender of the USAFFE forces in the Phlippines under a mango tree on April 9, 1942. Malinta TunnelGet ready to experience a part of history! The Malinta Tunnel’s name originated from Malinta Hill, a 390-foot (120 m) rise through which its shaft is bored. Malinta is also Filipino term for “many leeches”, linta, on the other hand is a local word for “leech”. The main tunnel, running east to west, is 831 feet (253 m) long, 24 feet (7.3 m) wide and 18 feet (5.5 m) high. Initially, Malinta Tunnel was used as a bomb-proof storage and personnel bunker, but was later equipped as a 1,000-bed hospital. Today, this historic tunnel is the venue of an audio-visual presentation of events that occurred during the Second World War, presented by Lamberto V.
